Increasing Number of Stroke Cases in the UK
Every 5 minutes, someone suffers a stroke.
According to the Stroke Association, there are over one million people living in the UK who’ve survived a stroke.
To one-third of these survivors, this is just the beginning –– 3 in 10 battle with recurrent strokes or TIA.
Strokes on the Rise
Current research estimates that stroke cases in the UK will increase by 60% each year over the next 14 years.
Experts aren’t sure of the exact culprit of the alarming rates. However, it’s known that drug and alcohol abuse, obesity, diabetes, high blood pressure, stress, and a sedentary lifestyle can increase your risk for a stroke.
Between lockdown, working from home, and a continual increase in sedentary, imbalanced lifestyles, our best guess is that our “new normal” might significantly contribute to these stats.
How to Prevent Your Risk for Strokes
Most of the time, strokes don’t strike out of nowhere.
Besides uncontrollable factors like gender, age, and genetics, there are lifestyle choices and measures you can take to help prevent and reduce your risk for a stroke. These include…
– Regular exercise
– Anti-stress practices and lifestyle choices
– Abstaining from drugs and alcohol
– Eating a balanced, low-fat, low-sugar diet
